Hello James!
As per new tradition at Boast, we ask all new staff to pick their favourite movie poster to go on our movie wall... So James what made you choose Casino Royale?
"Nothing beats the thrill and excitement of the James Bond franchise, and with Casino Royale being the second Bond film I saw in the cinema for myself, I had to pick it. Eva Green as Vesper Lynd has to be one of the best Bond characters of all time. Superb."
What is your career background?
I joined Boast at the start of 2021 with a focus on European import procedures and clearances as my first role in the logistics sector. I joined following a career as a buyer and merchandiser in a national retail head office. Working with imports from across the globe with Boast I am now enjoying being on the other side of the supply chain process and realising quite how complicated it can be to import the goods we all know and love!
What attracted you to the freight forwarding industry?
I am not sure you will ever find as fast-paced an industry as freight forwarding, especially when focussing on European shipments! It is a fascinating industry that has interested me since I was a boy watching the ships come in at Landguard Point, so it has perhaps been a long time coming!
What skills have you transferred over to your new industry that you have found particularly useful?
My career to date has always involved offering a good level of customer service. Moving a stage further up the supply chain, this principle stays the same. I understand the challenges and urgency in getting goods on sale at the best opportunity to maximise sales and how important the process of importing goods is to guarantee a successful sales period.
What do you enjoy most about your new role?
There is a genuine excitement daily when details of new shipments come in. At Boast we deal with a vast number of different shipments from Europe which contain a wide range of different commodities which each present a different range of challenges.
What do you enjoy doing in your downtime?
Since I was a child I have been a huge motorsport fan so when I get free-time I am very likely to be spending it photographing and spectating at Brands Hatch, Snetterton or Silverstone, or if not the sofa in front of some live sport! I also indulge my creative side working as ‘Smeedesigns’, designing race car liveries for a number of teams and drivers. Beyond this, I am an Ipswich Town fan (for my sins!)
