Hello Mel!
As per new tradition at Boast, we ask all staff to pick their favourite movie poster to go on our movie wall. So Mel...What made you choose 'Stand by Me'?
This is a film I used to watch with my best friend a lot as a teenager, it reminds me of the strong friendship we’ve had since we were 11, that we would follow each other on an adventure with no idea how it will turn out or how scary it could be, also my 2 absolute favourite films of all time were already chosen by someone else (Dirty Dancing & Top Gun!)
What is your career background?
I started as a trainee customs entry clerk in 1996 whilst I decided what I would like to do with my life but fast forward 25 years and I am still in shipping! I have worked for big and small companies during this time, looking after customers from a few shipments a year to high street stores with multiple containers a week, including global accounts and cross trades.
What has made you stay within the freight forwarding industry?
I have had great opportunities to work in different parts of the industry whilst learning new things. There is a good sense of job satisfaction!
If you could choose any job in the world to do, what would it be?
I would have loved to be a Wedding / Events Planner.
What do you enjoy most about working at Boast?
After working in the corporate world and coming to work for a family run company, the atmosphere is completely different. It sounds like a cliché, but it does feel like you are part of a big family and everyone works closer together as one team.
What do you enjoy doing in your downtime?
Spending time with family and friends and I’m a cinema card holder. I try and enjoy a couple of city breaks or beach holidays a year as I enjoy visiting new places.
